Brazilian Endodontic Journal (BEJ) is the official scientific journal of the Brazilian Endodontic Society (SBEndo). The journal publishes peer-reviewed, open-access manuscripts in English under a continuous publication model.
Aims and Scope
The BEJ is dedicated to the dissemination of high-quality scientific evidence in Endodontics and related fields, including endodontic diagnosis, pulp biology, apical periodontitis, root canal infection, chemomechanical preparation, irrigation, intracanal medication, root canal filling, endodontic materials, bioceramic materials, dental trauma, regenerative Endodontics, vital pulp therapy, guided Endodontics, endodontic microsurgery, cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), digital technologies, clinical outcomes, pain management, education in Endodontics, and evidence-based clinical practice.
Article Types
The journal accepts submissions of Original Articles, Evidence Synthesis manuscripts, Case Series and Case Reports, and Perspectives in Endodontics. Narrative Reviews are considered only by invitation from the Editors. Guidelines and Statements are official publications of the Brazilian Endodontic Society (SBEndo) and are not open to unsolicited submissions.
Open Access Policy
BEJ is a fully open-access journal. No submission fees, article processing charges (APCs), publication fees, or access fees are charged to authors or readers.
Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
The Brazilian Endodontic Journal (BEJ) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. Authors, reviewers, editors, and members of the editorial board are expected to adhere to internationally recognized ethical standards throughout the publication process.
BEJ follows the principles and recommendations established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
Editorial Responsibilities
The Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors are responsible for making publication decisions based exclusively on scientific merit, originality, relevance, methodological quality, and clarity of submitted manuscripts.
Editorial decisions are made without discrimination regarding nationality, gender, race, institutional affiliation, religious beliefs, or political views.
Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, unbiased, confidential, and transparent editorial process.
Peer Review Process
All manuscripts submitted to BEJ undergo an initial editorial screening to verify compliance with the journal’s scope, ethical requirements, and submission guidelines.
Manuscripts considered suitable for review are evaluated through a double-blind peer review process conducted by independent specialists in the relevant field.
Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and timely assessments based exclusively on scientific merit.
Final publication decisions are made by the Editors based on reviewers’ recommendations and editorial judgment.
Authors' Responsibilities
Authors must ensure that submitted work is original, unpublished, and not under consideration by another journal.
All authors listed on a manuscript must have made substantial scientific contributions to the work and approved the final submitted version.
Sources, references, data, figures, and previously published material must be properly acknowledged and cited.
Authors are responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and authenticity of all information presented in their manuscripts.
Potential conflicts of interest and sources of funding must be fully disclosed.
Any form of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of scientific misconduct are strictly prohibited.
Research Ethics
Research involving human participants must comply with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and must have received approval from an appropriate Research Ethics Committee or Institutional Review Board whenever applicable.
Studies involving animals must comply with institutional, national, and international guidelines regarding animal welfare and ethical treatment.
Authors may be required to provide documentation of ethical approval, informed consent, or supporting ethical documentation during the review process.
Reviewers' Responsibilities
Reviewers must maintain confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts and associated materials.
Reviews should be objective, constructive, evidence-based, and free from personal criticism.
Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest that may influence their evaluation.
Relevant published work not cited by the authors should be identified whenever appropriate.
Editors' Responsibilities
Editors evaluate manuscripts exclusively on academic merit and scientific quality.
Editors are responsible for ensuring the integrity, impartiality, and transparency of the peer-review process.
Reviewer anonymity must be preserved throughout the editorial process.
Conflicts of interest involving editors, reviewers, or authors must be managed appropriately.
Editors shall take corrective action whenever ethical concerns or evidence of misconduct arise.
Publication Misconduct
BEJ follows COPE recommendations in the investigation and management of allegations of publication misconduct, including plagiarism, duplicate publication, citation manipulation, authorship disputes, image manipulation, and data fabrication or falsification.
Where necessary, the journal may publish corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or other notices to preserve the integrity of the scientific record.
