Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by another journal.
- The manuscript is written in English and has been checked for grammar, clarity and scientific terminology.
- The manuscript file is in Microsoft Word format and has been anonymized for double-blind peer review.
- The title page includes author names, affiliations, ORCID iDs, corresponding author details, funding information, conflicts of interest and author contributions.
- The manuscript follows the structure and word limits required for the selected article type.
- References follow Vancouver style and include DOI links whenever available.
- Figures, tables and supplementary files are cited in the text and uploaded in appropriate format.
- Ethics committee approval and informed consent are provided when applicable.
- Clinical trial registration is provided when applicable.
- All authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and agree with its submission to the Brazilian Endodontic Journal.
- Conflicts of interest, funding sources and supporting agencies have been fully disclosed.

Author Guidelines
The Brazilian Endodontic Journal — BEJ is the official scientific journal of the Brazilian Endodontic Society — SBEndo. The journal publishes peer-reviewed, open-access manuscripts in English related to Endodontics and associated fields.
BEJ accepts open submissions for the following manuscript categories: Original Article, Evidence Synthesis, Case Series/Report and Perspectives in Endodontics.
Narrative Reviews are accepted by invitation from the Editors only. Unsolicited Narrative Reviews will not be considered.
Guidelines, consensus statements, position papers and official recommendations are exclusive publications of the Brazilian Endodontic Society — SBEndo. These manuscripts must be commissioned, coordinated or formally approved by SBEndo and are not open to unsolicited submissions.
Aims and Scope
BEJ accepts manuscripts focused on clinical, biological, technological, educational and translational aspects of Endodontics, including pulp biology, apical periodontitis, root canal infection, endodontic diagnosis, CBCT, digital technologies, irrigation, intracanal medication, root canal preparation, obturation, endodontic materials, bioceramics, dental trauma, vital pulp therapy, regenerative Endodontics, endodontic microsurgery, guided Endodontics, treatment outcomes, pain management, education and evidence-based clinical practice.
Article Types
Original Article
Clinical, laboratory, epidemiological, educational, translational or technological research presenting original data.
Recommended limit: up to 3,500 words, 250-word structured abstract and up to 40 references.
Evidence Synthesis
Systematic reviews, scoping reviews, umbrella reviews, integrative reviews, network meta-analyses and meta-analyses. These manuscripts are open for submission and must follow the appropriate reporting guideline, such as PRISMA or PRISMA-ScR.
Recommended limit: up to 5,000 words, 250-word abstract and references as needed.
Narrative Review — Invitation Only
Narrative Reviews provide a critical, balanced and up-to-date discussion of relevant topics in Endodontics. These manuscripts are accepted by invitation from the Editors only. Unsolicited Narrative Reviews will not be considered.
Recommended limit: up to 5,000 words, 250-word abstract and references as needed.
Case Series/Report
Clinical case reports or case series with relevant diagnostic, therapeutic, technological or biological contribution to Endodontics. Authors should follow CARE and, when applicable, PRICE 2020 recommendations for case reports in Endodontics.
Recommended limit: up to 2,500 words for case reports and 3,500 words for case series, with a 250-word abstract.
Guidelines / Statements — SBEndo Official Publication
Guidelines, consensus statements, position papers and official recommendations are exclusive publications of the Brazilian Endodontic Society — SBEndo. These manuscripts are commissioned, coordinated or formally approved by SBEndo and are not open to unsolicited submissions.
Word limits may vary according to the nature of the document.
Perspectives in Endodontics
Short, focused manuscripts discussing emerging concepts, controversies, clinical challenges, technologies, education, policy or future directions in Endodontics.
Recommended limit: up to 2,000 words and a 200-word abstract.
Language
All manuscripts must be submitted in English. Authors are responsible for the quality, clarity and scientific accuracy of the language. The Editorial Board may request professional English language editing before acceptance.
Submission Files
Authors must upload:
- Title Page with author information.
- Main Manuscript File, anonymized for double-blind peer review.
- Figures and tables, when applicable.
- Supplementary material, when applicable.
- Reporting guideline checklist, when applicable.
- Ethics approval document, when requested by the Editors.
Title Page
The title page must include:
- Full manuscript title.
- Short running title.
- Full names of all authors.
- Institutional affiliations of all authors.
- ORCID iD of each author.
- Corresponding author’s name, address and email.
- Author contributions.
- Funding information.
- Conflicts of interest statement.
- Acknowledgments, when applicable.
- Ethics approval and informed consent statements, when applicable.
- Clinical trial registration number, when applicable.
- Data availability statement.
Main Manuscript File
The main manuscript file must be anonymized and should not contain author names, affiliations, acknowledgments or any identifying information.
For Original Articles, the recommended structure is:
- Title
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Introduction
- Materials and Methods
- Results
- Discussion
- Conclusions
- References
- Tables
- Figure legends
Other article types may follow a structure appropriate to their design, provided that the manuscript is clear, complete and consistent with the journal’s requirements.
Abstract
Original Articles should include a structured abstract with the following headings:
- Aim
- Methodology
- Results
- Conclusions
When applicable, authors may include:
- Clinical Relevance
Case Reports may use:
- Aim
- Case Report
- Conclusion
Evidence Synthesis manuscripts should provide a structured abstract appropriate to the review design.
Review articles, Perspectives, Guidelines and Statements may use structured or unstructured abstracts according to the nature of the manuscript.
Keywords
Authors must provide 4 to 6 keywords, preferably selected from MeSH — Medical Subject Headings.
References
BEJ adopts the Vancouver reference style.
References must be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. Reference numbers should appear in the text using Arabic numerals in parentheses.
DOI links should be included whenever available.

Figures and Tables
Figures and tables must be cited in the text in numerical order.
Figures should be submitted in high resolution, preferably in TIFF, JPEG or PNG format. Clinical images, radiographs, CBCT images, diagrams and charts must be clear, properly identified and ethically compliant.
Tables should be editable and not submitted as images.
Figure legends must be included at the end of the manuscript file.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce previously published figures, tables or images.
Ethical Requirements
All manuscripts must comply with international standards for research and publication ethics.
Studies involving humans, human biological material, patient records, extracted teeth, radiographic images, CBCT scans or clinical photographs must include approval by an institutional research ethics committee, when applicable.
The manuscript must state:
- Name of the ethics committee.
- Approval number or protocol code.
- Confirmation of informed consent, when applicable.
Animal studies must include approval by an appropriate animal research ethics committee and must follow internationally accepted standards for animal care and reporting.
Clinical Trials
Clinical trials must be registered in a public clinical trial registry before participant recruitment.
The registration number and registry name must be included in the manuscript, preferably at the end of the abstract and in the Materials and Methods section.
Randomized clinical trials must follow CONSORT guidelines.
Reporting Guidelines
Authors must follow the appropriate reporting guideline according to study design:
- CONSORT for randomized clinical trials.
- STROBE for observational studies.
- PRISMA for systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
- PRISMA-ScR for scoping reviews.
- STARD for diagnostic accuracy studies.
- ARRIVE for animal studies.
- CARE for case reports.
- PRICE 2020 for case reports in Endodontics.
- CHEERS for economic evaluations, when applicable.
- SRQR or COREQ for qualitative studies, when applicable.
The corresponding checklist should be uploaded as a supplementary file when applicable.
Similarity, Plagiarism and Research Integrity
All submissions may be screened using similarity detection software.
Manuscripts may be rejected if they show evidence of:
- Plagiarism.
- Redundant or duplicate publication.
- Inappropriate text recycling.
- Data fabrication or falsification.
- Image manipulation.
- Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
- Authorship misconduct.
- Ethical approval inconsistencies.
Suspected misconduct will be handled according to COPE recommendations.
Authorship
Authorship should be limited to individuals who made substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; acquisition, analysis or interpretation of data; drafting or critical revision of the manuscript; and approval of the final version.
All authors must approve the submitted version and agree to be accountable for the work.
Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged with their permission.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence tools may be used only to support language editing, grammar correction, formatting or organization of the manuscript.
AI tools must not be listed as authors.
Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity and confidentiality of the submitted manuscript.
Any use of artificial intelligence tools must be disclosed in the manuscript.
Conflicts of Interest
All authors must disclose financial and non-financial conflicts of interest.
If there are no conflicts, authors should state:
The authors declare no conflicts of interest.
Funding
All sources of funding, grants, scholarships, institutional support or commercial support must be disclosed.
If there was no funding, authors should state:
This study received no specific funding.
Data Availability
Authors are encouraged to make research data available in recognized repositories whenever possible.
A data availability statement must be included in the manuscript, such as:
The data supporting the findings of this study are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.
or
The data supporting the findings of this study are available in [repository name], at [DOI or link].
Peer Review Process
BEJ adopts a double-blind peer review process.
The editorial workflow includes:
- Initial editorial screening.
- Scope, format and ethical compliance assessment.
- Similarity checking.
- Assignment to an Associate Editor or Section Editor.
- Review by at least two independent reviewers.
- Editorial decision.
Possible editorial decisions include:
- Accept.
- Minor revision.
- Major revision.
- Reject and resubmit.
- Reject.
The final decision is the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor.
Open Access Policy
BEJ is a fully open-access journal. All articles are freely available immediately after publication.
Readers may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search and link to the full texts, provided that the original work is properly cited.
Fees
BEJ does not charge:
- Submission fees.
- Article processing charges.
- Publication fees.
- Access fees.

Manuscript Withdrawal
Authors who wish to withdraw a manuscript must submit a formal request to the editorial office, explaining the reason for withdrawal. Withdrawal after peer review or acceptance should be justified and approved by the Editorial Board.
Corrections, Retractions and Expressions of Concern
BEJ may publish corrections, retractions or expressions of concern when necessary to preserve the integrity of the scientific record.
These actions will follow internationally accepted publication ethics standards.
